Trying to put together a fun and interesting vacation for your family can be difficult, especially if you have children of different ages.  Teenagers typically like different things than younger children, making the planning a bit difficult.  Yet, there is one thing that children of all ages love and have loved generation after generation, going to a zoo.  You may even remember going to a zoo as a child, seeing unique animals from all over the world.  Yet, with all the varieties of animals today, we can almost guarantee that zoos are different than they were when you were a child.  To see someone of the most interesting and fun zoos in the world, you want to consider going to a Virginia zoo.

One of the most popular Virginia zoos is the Metro Richmond Zoo.  This relatively small zoo houses over 400 animals, and is one of the few privately owned for profit zoos in Virginia.  Each years, this zoo is visited by over 30,000 people.  What has made this zoo especially interesting for decades is the zoos extensive primate collection, which is one of the largest in the United States.  Some of the other popular attraction at this Virginia zoo is its gazelle’s, Nyala, Antelopes, and its extensive bird collection.  For those who would like an extra special treat, don’t forget to visit the zoo around Christmas time to see the zoos annual Christmas pageant which is performed by the zoos very own animals!

While you are visiting Virginia, don’t forget there are also other interesting Virginia zoos that the state has to offer.  Probably the most popular of these zoos is the Virginia Zoological Park.  In 1892, the city of Norfolk bought 65 acres of land, planning to have not only a state park, but to official open a zoo for the public.  Today, this zoo features animals from over 5 continents: Africa, North America, South America, Australia, and Asia.  Currently, the zoo is working on renovating each of these continent exhibits.  Some of these popular exhibits are already open against the public, including their famous prairie dog exhibit, North American Exhibit, and their newest opened project, the trial of the tigers.  The trail of tigers exhibit also includes other animals from both India and southeast Asia.   One thing is for certain, and that is once your children see all of these animals, you won’t be able to get them out of the zoo!
